Lately we’ve been getting a lot of questions from iPhone users on how they can restore TrapCall to their new iPhone, now that the TrapCall app is temporarily unavailable from the App Store. There’s good news! If you backup your iPhone to iTunes, it’s really simple.

Step 1: Once your iPhone is plugged in to your computer, select your iPhone from the list on the left hand side of iTunes.

Step 2: Click the “Apps” button at the top of the main iTunes window to bring up the list of apps available in your iTunes library.

Step 3: Scroll down until you find TrapCall in the list of apps. Once you’ve found it, check the box to add it to your iPhone.

Step 4: Click the “Apply” button in the bottom right hand corner of iTunes to apply the changes and, voila, the TrapCall app will be on your iPhone!

Note: If you only backup your iPhone through iCloud, you won’t be able to restore TrapCall.

It pains us to write to you today to let you know that, unfortunately, TrapCall is discontinuing its Canadian support. While demand for TrapCall in Canada was never as high as the demand we see here in the US, this had little to do with our decision, which overwhelmingly had to do with the Canadian carriers and the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission (CRBC).

In Canada, it was made clear early on that TrapCall was not welcomed, even though we were operating legally under the same laws that enable us to operate in the U.S., where we’re embraced by people, and also by the carriers. Carriers in the U.S. go so far as to refer their customers to TrapCall when they’re having problems with harassing calls or cyber stalking. Carriers in Canada, on the other hand, would rather protect the identity of their customers who place harassing blocked calls and stalk others over the phone. They’d rather try to stifle innovation, keep their prices high, and their features minimal, than to give their customers what they really want.

It was a hard decision, but we’ve decided to pull the plug on Canada today. To everyone in Canada, we’re sorry we can no longer offer TrapCall for your carriers. We’re also sorry that you don’t have a more competitive, innovative and embracing, wireless market. If you’re upset, we ask you to make your opinion known and contact your carrier and the CRBC. We’d also like to say thank you to all the U.S. carriers for allowing us to work together peacefully.

If you’re having problems with blocked calls, and you’re in Canada, still feel free to reach out to us for advice. It’s the least we can do.

Users in Hawaii (area code 808) and Alaska (area code 907) who have AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, or Sprint wireless service, can now sign up for TrapCall via our website or one of our increasingly popular mobile apps.

With this latest expansion, TrapCall now supports the top 5 wireless carriers, in all 50 states.

We’ve been getting requests for MetroPCS support for years, and frankly, we didn’t think it was even possible until recently. You see, TrapCall can’t work without conditional call-forwarding on a users phone. MetroPCS does offer this, however, they have strict limitations on where users can conditionally forward their calls to — something no other carrier in the US has. MetroPCS only allows users to forward calls to “local” numbers. Unfortunately, the definition of a “local” number is extremely vague and there’s no rhyme or reason to how MetroPCS designates a “local” area. Even MetroPCS store employees don’t know the exact definition of a “local” calling area!

We spent some time looking at this limitation, digging deeper into the issue, and we eventually found a workaround that enables us to offer MetroPCS support in almost every area across the country. Sorry that it took so long, but MetroPCS support is finally here! It wasn’t easy, but we think you’ll agree it was worth it.

MetroPCS does not include call-forwarding in its plans, so it’s also important to note that you HAVE to add the call-forwarding feature to your plan BEFORE signing up for TrapCall. This can be done by updating your account at MetroPCS.com.

Today we’re excited to announce our largest expansion to date! TrapCall is now available on all four major wireless carriers in Canada — Rogers, Bell and Fido. Our mobile app is now also available in the Canadian iPhone App Store and Android Market.

It’s been a long road since we launched TrapCall almost 3 years ago now. We’re thrilled to finally be doing our first expansion outside of the US, as we realize that some of you find TrapCall to be an invaluable tool. Even a life saver at times. TrapCall is a product for the people, no matter how much the phone companies or the regulators dislike it. And we want to bring TrapCall to as many of you around the world as possible, which is what we’ll be focusing on doing in 2012.

So, Canada, we hope you don’t mind being the first country we empower, as we try to make TrapCall into a global service!

Activating TrapCall on your phone is something that varies carrier to carrier due to their different technologies, and unfortunately, AT&T was one of the carriers that required the most work on the users part. Until now. We took a long, hard look at this process and thought about how we could use a combination of different systems, technologies, and algorithms to help reduce the amount of steps we need a user to follow after sign up. We all know fewer steps is better and we were ready to do whatever it took to make the activation process as painless as possible.

These new behind-the-scenes automations have helped to reduce the number of activation steps in half on AT&T so that TrapCall is quicker and easier than ever to set up. Not only does this benefit users who sign up from our website, but we’ve also applied it to our mobile apps as well! We went to great lengths to get this new system planned out, developed, and put into production as soon as possible. We’d like to thank our awesome engineer, Bryan, for all the hard work writing this new system.

(Please note that if you are on T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon, your activation process is already as minimal as possible. Lucky you!)

Update: 1/13/2012 — We made another big improvement to these systems with our latest update today. Woohoo!

Today is a glorious day for TrapCall users! Today we’re announcing the release of our TrapCall mobile apps. While this alone is big news, we’re going the extra mile and releasing mobile apps for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry all at the same time — something we think has never before been done at this scale! The reason we were able to do this, largely stems from the fact that Apple took a whopping 201 days to approve our iPhone app…something we never would have expected.

We’re sorry for the delays, but we think it will be worth the wait.
